 No 1 is a quilling of a pair of Toucans. The male toucan is trying to draw the attention of the female on the above branch

No 2 is a pair of  Giraffes in a very romantic mood

No 3 is a Peacock and hen . I have done a similar quilling long time ago

No 4 is tweeter trying hard to impress tweety with his love talk

No 5 Is a couple of swans whispering sweet nothing as all couples in love


Love is in the Air was the theme of a quilling group who was having a challenge competition and wanted me to be the artist of the month. I had not quilled for about 2 years now and was in two minds if I should accept it or not. My fingers had not been working on quilling for some time and I was not sure if I had lost touch of it but it was an inspiration to start again. So I started with the swans which I know is not too good but went on with the peacock then tweety and and the giraffes and last,  the toucans

 So here is my new quillings for you to judge . Hope to do more this year though God knows what I am going to do with all my quillings

Quilling after some time. Sorry dear fans don't quill very often now as involved in other commitments. will try to create more quilling often in future. This is another quilled garden in summer done to be gifted to my sister. 

Ballerina in Quilling

Ballerina in quilling is not much of a creation but it is to be given as a gift to a ballet dancer who teach little kids dancing in kindergarten . The photograph I took of it is not that perfect too but I bet the real one looks much nicer .lol. My first quilling for 2015 and in a long time too. Hope to be more active this year. Quilled Cottage & Garden in Summer

Back again after a long break. Been quilling a lot of cards and qulling a wall hanging got delayed, but here I am back a with a sweet memory in quilling.  I was on a tour of the Alps & the beauty of the countrysides in Italy & Switzerland in September was awesome. Loved most the wooden or brickwall little country cottages with the window boxes in full bloom in various colours of flowers which is not to be seen in my country (Sri Lanka). The little gardens with so many variety of beautiful flowers looked like a dream to me. I just wanted the memories to last for ever in my life. So this is the outcome of my memory. The dream house.

It took me almost 80 hours to complete. Every little detail is in quilling. Wish I had more variety of coloured strips. There are places that the strip are as thin as a thread cause it is a 3D quilling. You may notice it if you look closer. I think I love this the most, of all my creations. 

Medieval Art of Sri Lanka (Gajasinghe) in Quilling

Gajasinghe is a drawing of a mythical creature, which is part lion & part elephant. This dates back to the period we had kings ruling our nation somewhere in 377 BC or even before.It was in 1505 that the foreigners invaded our country and the end of Kings ruling. Mythical lions paintings at that period was common as the then Sinhala people in our country believed that they were descendants of  a lion and a human girl, who had a son and daughter together. The Lion symbol plays a major role, to date, in our country and is seen in our country flag too. These old paintings can be found even today in ancient temple walls. The colouring they used at the time must have been excellent cause even many centuries later the paintings are still visible.                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                              I enjoy turning and twisting the strips as I have got used to doing it now. So expect more of these pictures cause I intend doing more of these medieval paintings of Sri Lanka in quilling

Hansa puttuwa (Entwined Swans)

                Hansa Puttuwa is a traditional and a very important & popular motif coming down from ancient Sri Lanka. May be from the Anuradhapura Era. Probably around the 4th century BC. This motif is commonly used at traditional Sinhala Buddhist weddings, from Jewelry to back drop decorations at wedding ceremonies.The stage (Poruwa) where the couple stands for the rituals,  is decorated with this motif using various raw material like coconut palms or flowers in a very rich manner. The brides necklace is often in silver or gold, engraved with this motif.                                                                                                                                      I have quilled it in line art or graphic method. I would call it creative quilling. The paper of course is A4 and the strips are 1/8 inches. It took me some time cause it wasn't easy to twist the strip to shape. Hope you enjoy it. Quilled Mandarin duck near water garden

Don't quill often now not because I have lost interest in this hobby but I am into other craft & I do not want to add those, on to my quilling blog. May be I will start another blog for those. Another reason for not quilling is I have lost ideas for quilling. I like to quill something that has not been quilled before. Now to this particular quilling. The mandarin duck is a beautiful creature like the peacock that it's beauty never cease to fascinate me. I love the bright colours and is a great idea for quilling but every duck I googled was different in colour from each other. So I quilled my own version. The entire picture is quilled with A4 coloured paper cut into 1/8 inch strips. I am a bit sad cause the real picture looks better than this & I cannot show it to you. Hope you like it :) 

Lord of the Jungle (paper quilled Lion)

           

              In keeping with my promise to do at lest, two projects for the month, I just completed my 2nd quilling for the month of  February. It was my idea to do a lion with a landscape background but had to do with only the head as I ran short of red brown paper. You quillers may know how difficult it is to find shades of brown. But I think this would do as hanging on to a particular quilling for long gets bored and you feel like dumping it off. Now I may stop quilling for a while for a break & consider another hobby. Some times I wonder if it is a waste of time, as all my quillings are piling up in a box. May be I should start a business :)
 

Lady in the garden (Quilled)

To day I am posting once again my very first quilling project that I did in  2007 and posted in May 2009 cause that is the time I started my blog. If you look closely all the quilled bits are  not in the usual way that you may have seen in books or tutorials or even from classes you may have gone to. It is because I had never heard or seen quilling before 2009. My love and hobby from very young age was hand craft. I only had to see something and I would never rest till I did it at least once. My flickr page http://www.flickr.com/photos/laktile has pictures of all my craft since 2009. My Facebook craft album which is public  has all my craft pictures too.

One day as I was going through some books in the Arts/Craft section in a book store, I came across a little magazine with a picture of a rat. It looked like paper circles but  it did not interest me much,so I put it aside. I spend all my free time creating something and one day I had run out of all my ideas and I remembered the paper rat. I knew it was done with strips of paper, so I started twisting and rolling paper for many days till I was satisfied with the result. And the first result is the leafs on the right hand corner which I created with the comb (My tutorial on this leaf is on the blog). Now there are many who do this leaf. Some give credit to me but most don't :)

This picture is my imagination and not from any book or copied from anyone. My visitors to the blog has now increased so much, but I know many of you would not have seen this,cause this was one of my first postings three years ago. I have had many offers for this but I could never make up my mind to part with it. Hope you all would like it :)

Two Gentle Souls (Quilled)

Beeing away from my hobbies for some time but I am back with another quilling of Lord Buddha. It is my immagination of Lord Buddha meditating near the river bank, with lots of flowers and beauty that can only  be found in a forest.  The little deer brings some berries as offering to the lord.

The bits of quilling I used for the body of the Buddha and deer is extreamly small and is made of 1/8" strips. The tree, the robes and the flowers too are of 1/8" strips. The back ground was painted useing oil paint but the trees are quilled with 1/16 " strips useing Susans honey comb method. Will be back soon :D

Quilled Rosella

This is my first craft project for 2011. Was not in a mood to get back to my craft after all the travelling and too busy trying out all the new punchers and tools that I purchased  on my way back home. Now back to my normal lonely life, where it is me my laptop and paper,paper, paper:). This picture is something that got deeply rooted in my mind while travelling through  a forest during my vacation. We were travelling at high speed and could not get a photo of it but the beautiful tree in full bloom and the multi colour parrot stuck in my memory. It might not look at all as the one I saw, but managed to quill something close to my memory. The picture is 8" X 12" and quilled with 1/8" strips of A4 coloured paper. It took me about 16 hours to complete

Christmas Card 2010

          This is dedicated to all of you, who visit my blog during this festive season. This card is 6 1/2x8" in size. Santa was a bit time taking as it is only 2". The length of a strip I used for Santa was just 1" each. I used a lace cut design to make it more nice. So this is going to be my last project for this year. I would not have made this card too if I was not ordered to rest. Come down with chickenpox and compelled to rest. As I am not a person who could lie on bed idle, I started this card and I feel it came out to my satisfaction.
