Paper Quilling = Black African, Model :

I have not been quilling f or a while now, but my passion for quilling makes it impossible to keep away from it for too long. This entire quilling project is done with left over paper strips. The model is made of over 5000 tiny paper circles, of 1/8" paper strips. Took me some time as it was too small and a strain on the eye.

Hope you like it. May not quill again for some time as the Christmas season is beginning and all the work  that comes with it, will not give me time for quilling. May be a few cards, but no major project.

I prefer to do big pictures rather than cards as it could be made use of as wall hangings after framing and I am sure it will last somewhere for some time and  not end up in a bin as most cards :(

Rainbow Dash - In quilling

I do not know much about this character but I thought it would look nice in quilling. So here he is. The garden is my imaginative paradise where I go to relax & get away from earthly problems. Dash is quilled with 1/8" strips and the background strips goes to even 1 mm . The leaves on the left are quilled with a strip a little broader than a thread. Hope you like my picture. Double-headed eagle, in quilling

The article is taken from WIKIPEDIA,  to let you know what this quille bird means. The double-headed eagle is a common symbol in heraldry and vexillology. It is most commonly associated with the Byzantine Empire, the Holy Roman Empire, the Russian Empire and their successor states. In Byzantine heraldry, the heads represent the Emperor having authority over both secular and religious matters, Byzantine emperors were regarded as Christ's vicegerent on Earth. It also signified the dominance of the Byzantine Emperors over both East and West. In the Holy Roman Empire's heraldry, it  represented the church and the state. Several Eastern European nations adopted it from the Byzantines and continue to use it as their national symbol to this day. This symbol is used in many ancient flags of Sri Lanka too. The country I come from :)

It's been a month since I quilled anything. Sometimes you get bored doing the same thing all the time so I had to take a break. Hope you would like this too. Thank you my dear followers and visitors for keeping my blog going :)

Butterflies and flowers (Quilled)

 This would be my first quilling for 2013. It has been a busy season with Christmas and all the  functions that come along with it. Just found some time in between to do this picture. Butterfly was an idea that I had for some time but did not really get down to quilling it. Hope you like my creation. Happy quilling till I get back with another one :)

Welcome 2013 (Quilld)

A quick quilled card to end the year and to wish all my dear followers and visitors to my blog, A VERY HAPPY NEW YEAR!. Thank you for all the visits you made, and for all the lovely comments you gave my creations. I hope I would be able to do better creations in the future. December is always hectic and there is no time for hobbies. But I had to finish the year  with a " thank you quilling"  to all of you who visit my blog from all over the world. Hope you would come back in 2013 too, cause I would try to bring you new designs in quilling.

                                                                                          

The Lovers (Quilled)

Been some time since I did a posting on my blog. Did a few greeting cards and could not do a wall hanging for September after the Red Rooster.  This is a combination of graphic quilling and husking. The only tool I used was my doggy comb. The picture is 12'' by 10" and I have used 1/16" and 1/8" strips, cut out of A4 coloured paper. Hope you like it. No idea for my next quilling, but will be back soon :)

Lady in the garden (Quilled)

To day I am posting once again my very first quilling project that I did in  2007 and posted in May 2009 cause that is the time I started my blog. If you look closely all the quilled bits are  not in the usual way that you may have seen in books or tutorials or even from classes you may have gone to. It is because I had never heard or seen quilling before 2009. My love and hobby from very young age was hand craft. I only had to see something and I would never rest till I did it at least once. My flickr page http://www.flickr.com/photos/laktile has pictures of all my craft since 2009. My Facebook craft album which is public  has all my craft pictures too.

One day as I was going through some books in the Arts/Craft section in a book store, I came across a little magazine with a picture of a rat. It looked like paper circles but  it did not interest me much,so I put it aside. I spend all my free time creating something and one day I had run out of all my ideas and I remembered the paper rat. I knew it was done with strips of paper, so I started twisting and rolling paper for many days till I was satisfied with the result. And the first result is the leafs on the right hand corner which I created with the comb (My tutorial on this leaf is on the blog). Now there are many who do this leaf. Some give credit to me but most don't :)

This picture is my imagination and not from any book or copied from anyone. My visitors to the blog has now increased so much, but I know many of you would not have seen this,cause this was one of my first postings three years ago. I have had many offers for this but I could never make up my mind to part with it. Hope you all would like it :)

Easter Bunny and Egg (Quilled)

In keeping with my promise to quill at least 2 pictures a month I am posting this picture. I am not very satisfied with it as I know the colour of the rabbit is not good. I very nearly threw it off but felt sorry for the poor guy and kept him back. I think the mood we are in at the moment we start a project should be pleasant for the end result to be good. Any way hear it is and hope my next one works out well :D

Dora The Explorer - Quilled

Happy New Year to all my visitors and flowers.. You gave me great support last year by commenting on my pictures and visiting my blog. My visitors flag counter, shows visitors from 120 countries and visitors are nearly 40,000. I believe I give you something of interest and I would continue to do so this year too. I may not create a lot, but will bring you something of interest. Hoping I could do at least 2 projects for a month.

So this is my first project for 2012. I love kids stories. It takes me to the wonder land of kids and make me feel like one too. It brings out pictures like this in my mind and I quill them. Dora is my grand sons favourite story. Hope little kids could see it. Wishing all of you a great year friends. Will be back soon with another project. Take care

Card for Sis plus guess who ?

This card is specially  for my sister for her birthday. We are two sisters who do anything from needle craft to cooking and bakeing plus anything and everything a house wife needs to know and do. But while my extra passion is for crafting, her passion is for  dressmaking and she is very professional at it. She stands one step a head of me cause she makes money with her talent and I do it only as a hobby. 

I need to make use of all my punches that I bought. You may see more of my punch cards in the future. Not giving up quilling. Will come up with an interesting picture soon. Quilling it at the moment. Posting one item from it hear hope you like it :D

A CARD FOR A FRIEND

This is a card of left over quillings. There were leaves and flowers that I had quilled for various other projects. Mostly they were experiment quillings. I still have loads of them. These are quillings I do when I don't have  ideas  for any craft projects and have nothing better to do. I did this flower arrangement, to show the many followers who are trying out my leaf on my video, the proper way to place the leaf. Note, in the picture all my leaves are arranged with the veins  going down. If you take a look at a natural leaf you will see that all veins go down . Hope this picture helps you when trying out the leaves :) 

Vortex quilling - Butterfly & flower

As I have run out of ideas for quilling, I have taken a break from it and now going on to another, of my Hobbies. But while surfing the net. I came across this tutorial of Vortex quilling, which is done without a tool. I did this card following the instructions from it. If you too need to try it out, which is quite easy, Google for Vortex Quilling. It will take you to Quilled Creation, and Alli's blog. There are easy to follow instructions with pictures.

Cart of Flowers

I try to post a creation of mine at least once a month, and this is my post for July. The idea of a cart of flowers, was from an embroidery book I came across. But the cart and flowers are all my creations. The 7 big flowers are made with three long strips of 12" +1/16" in a weaving pattern. and all the rest are done in a way that the professionals and expert quillers, would call husking. No quilling needle is used for any design in this picture. It took me about 20 hours to complete. The shadow in the umbrella is real, because it has the real shape of it.I quilled it first on a cellophane and shaped it in to an umbrella before pasting on to the picture.

This Picture is a dedication to all mothers. Especially the Queen of all mothers, THE BLESSED VERGIN MARY whom I have great faith in. It was one of a picture that my mum had received from her sister when she was ill. This will be framed and preserved. The face and the hand is not quilled.

Easter Bunny with his collection of eggs

This was to be my quilling for Easter but due to unavoidable circumstances could not complete it in time. My little bunny was out collecting eggs, and lost his way in the woods. He was found by a giant bird, crying sitting on a stone in the middle of the woods, where lots of beautiful flowers were in full bloom. The big bird was really sorry that the bunny would not be able to go home in time for Easter. He was a friendly guy but foolish too. So not only did he give bunny a lift on his back  but gifted an egg that his mum had just laid. Little bunny is  happy  with the big egg. Mum is going to be so happy and not be harsh on him for being late. But his friend big bird, may have a lot of explaining to do to his mum on how the egg went missing. He is not going to have a happy Easter:(

This is what was in my head when I started quilling this item. I don't think I should explain about the quilling, as it is the same as all my other quilling. Hope you like it.
